TIB KAT MP is based on methane sulfonic acid, which is partially neutralized with selected amines to generate a blocked acid catalyst. The formulation is very well suited to ensure efficient networking. It is significantly more active than usual p-toluene sulfonic acid based products. This results in a lower dosage in coating systems. The product ensures a relatively long pot life. The dosage ranges typically between 0.5 – 2.5%, depending on the application.
TIB KAT SP is a formulation based on methane sulfonic acid with a phosphorus-containing component to catalyze esterification. The catalyst results in products with lower color numbers. The use of TIB KAT SP is particularly recommended when using raw material that results in colored products. The application temperature of the TIB KAT SP is between 60°C and 180°C and the dosage quantity is between 0.05% and 1% TIB KAT S70 is a 70% clear aqueous solution of sulfosuccinic acid. The acid shows high stability against thermal and oxidative decomposition. As a result of the high acid strength and low molecular weight,
TIB KAT S70 is an excellent catalyst for esterification reactions. The usual dosage here is 0.1%. TIB KAT S70 is suitable for the esterification of primary and secondary alcohols in the temperature range from 60°C to 200°C. Due to its low volatility, TIB KAT S70 generally does not need to be removed by distillation, especially at high reaction temperatures and under vacuum conditions. The use of TIB KAT S70 results in colorless products with low acid values after a short reaction time. TIB KAT S70 can be completely removed from water-insoluble esters through a neutralization process using saturated sodium bicarbonate. TIB KAT HES 70 is a hydroxy-functional aliphatic sulfonic acid and is used as an esterification catalyst in oleo chemistry and is particularly suitable due to its low volatility at high temperatures and in vacuum.
Further applications include the production of isothionate esters, where no removal of the catalyst is necessary, just neutralization. TIB KAT HES 70 can also be used for the acid-catalyzed crosslinking of melamine resins. The reaction is exothermic but relatively easy to implement.
